Having just finished another MusicHourUK session on Twitter this evening, I thought I would post another blog, so, this time I thought I would write about someone who is a regular participant of #MusicHourUK on a Monday and Tuesday night, so this blog is about super-talented 18 year old singer-songwriter Holly Morwenna.
Holly picked up a guitar at the age of 10 and piano when she was 15 to accompany her vocals, which gave her the ability to perform on stage, live. She wrote her first “proper” song “Don’t Run Away” at the age of 11 and recorded the first version age 13, and the second version (which is on her debut EP) at the age of 17.
In 2013/14 at the age of 16, Holly entered a national competition called Open Mic UK and managed to successfully gain a place in the National Grand Finals held at the Birmingham NEC, out of 10,000 applicants! Holly also got to the Finals of Stairway to the Stars in 2014 as well as reaching the Area Finals for both Teenstar and Songwriter UK.
My favourite song from Holly’s catalogue of songs is her debut single, ‘Swim Out To Sea’. The single was co-written by Holly and her good friend Ella Frances. Take a cheeky listen to it below.
When I first heard ‘Swim Out To Sea’ it was clear the potential Holly has with her vocal sound and song writing skills. Holly has also released her debut EP called ‘Bloom’ which you can listen to here. Take a listen, you will not be disappointed. Holly is a fantastic role-model for things young people can achieve when they have a dream or goal. Great work Holly.
As Holly spends most weekends gigging you will be able to see her perform live and you can check out her gig dates on her website here, be sure to go along and see Holly live!
